Could the NEFLIN site have links down one side of the page so us procrastinators and those that just started could get quickly to an individual Thing?

RSS
Back in the Dark Ages, I subscribed to listservs. The work related ones were necessary, but I hit the delete button harder than usual during my readership. Why? Because people who knew less than I did were pontificating on topics that were not connected to my job or interests, and I could get much better information from the journals. Ah, but then......
Then I found Scouts-L, where there was a cadre of intelligent individuals and a whole lot of idiots talking about Scouting. As a newbie, I was thrilled! So much information that I wanted (not that cataloging minutiae wasn't exciting...) - coming to my desk! WOW. I loved it, I used it, I got hooked on the daily fix of info, much of which I never used. (But it came right to me!! Several times a day, er.... many times a day!) I finally grew out of the need for listservs. I don't have the time. I don't have the patience.
Why does RSS feel like I'm falling off the wagon? It is soooooo tempting. Especially the cute animal blog. Gotta have that. (really, its better than the once a week Funny You Should Ask from Gale). Having been down that tempting listserv path, I can be pickier this time around. Yup, I can handle this. I said no to the CNN feed, because I'd rather check it 3 times a day than get all the updated bits. I usually don't read that many articles anyway. I said yes to the Harry Potter themepark website because I need to know right away if there is an update. Redwall series, too. [So much like AuthorTracker, but better, because I can find out about tour dates (I don't go) and sightings instead of when something will really be published!]
Remember when I said blogging was alot like babbling? Yeah, well I do that.
Bottom Line: RSS is cool but addictive. Be Careful Out There. If you bring so much in to your computer, you might not have time to interact with the carbon-bonded types. Yeah, Dave: People.

Thing 3. Blog searchingJust the same kind of luck I have with general web searches, with a larger percentage of junk. Unfortunately, blogs are filled with opinions, many of which should not be shared.
I like to use the web for information gathering, not socializing. Finding useful information in blogs just means using advanced search skills. So I keep hoping. After all, I like to think that there's a pony in there somewhere. TTFN
